  Good walking distance to campus (~15 minutes to north side, technically less than 5 minutes to reach the campus, but that's where it officially counts as campus, at which point it's just a student resident hall), spacious units, water is included (but not sewer), grocery store (slightly expensive because it's organic foods) and Starbucks nearby, generally nice apartment.. No red flags raised or anything, but some issues made me decide not to renew my lease. (Brace yourselves for a long review)
  1. The rent is too expensive - if you have a choice, just rent somewhere further from campus to lower rent significantly.
  2. No central heat or A/C - I know some people prefer this because they don't need to heat up/cool down the entire apartment every time they adjust the temperature, but there is only one A/C unit in the living room for the entire apartment. I haven't been able to sleep in my bedroom all summer because it's too damn hot. I've heard people use portable A/C's, but I wasn't wiling to pay even more money for electricity.
  3. This was my first year living here, so I'm not sure if the previous management (back when it was called "University Hills Apartment") also did a lot of inspections before the new academic year started, but every time they come in for inspection (on the A/C, checking the breakers etc), something in my apartment gets altered. Toilet seat left up (I'm a female, so I know that wouldn't be me), A/C temperature lowered to 70 (I always keep it at no lower than 78), little things moved around.. I can let go of the stuff moved around because I know they need the space to do their inspections, but the toilet seat and the A/C thing I'm not so sure. (like who's going to be pay for the electricity/sewer they used while they were in my apartment? I didn't agree to those.) And I'm usually not even home when they come in, so who knows what exactly they do while they're in here? I don't mean to sound so cynical and judgmental, but it's happened a few times that I feel a little uncomfortable every time I see a notice saying they'd be coming around for inspections.
  4. Also, maybe since the building is so old, I could never get cold, not even close to cool, water all summer. Sometimes even steam would come off of the water when I just have the cold faucet turned on. So if you expect to jump in the shower to cool off after walking home from work, be prepared to be disappointed..
  
  It was overall an okay experience living here, but due to the transition to new management (transition periods are always annoying - not their fault), and the reasons I gave above, I don't think I'll be living here again. Honestly, unless you're getting a second roommate to share that 1-bedroom unit, or don't mind paying >$1000/mo for rent, (it'll be closer to $1200 after paying for utilities) I wouldn't recommend it.
